Teacher Spotlight: Arielle Beth Klein

Doug GoldringCommunity, Training

We’d love to introduce you to one of our incredible TBG teaching artists, Arielle Beth Klein! Read our interview with her below…

What do you enjoy most about teaching?

ABK: So many, but one particular thing that comes to mind is watching a group of students become a community. Oftentimes at the end of classes, I overhear the students creating email chains, or WhatsApp groups to stay in touch. This makes me so happy because so much of this business is about finding your community, and it is such a joy to watch people spark these new relationships!

What is a TBG tool you love to use in your own acting journey?

ABK: Looking for the Earliest Reason to Speak. I’m prone to overthinking. This tool helps me really listen, focus on the story rather than focusing on how I think I’m doing, and breaks me out of line or behavior patterns. When I use this tool my attention is fully on my partner; I’m observing and listening to them in a whole new way which often leads to me being actually surprised by things, (eliciting new, spontaneous reactions,) and it’s fun!

What is a project that you’ve been a part of that you are proud of?

ABK: I feel like I’ve been talking about this non-stop, but recently I shot a short film I wrote/produced/acted in called The Red Shoe that truly could not have happened without the TBG community. The script began in my friend/colleague K. Lorrel Manning’s screenwriting class. He encouraged me to keep working on it, and I asked him to direct –  cut to 3 years later and we raised money and shot the film!

Other TBG artists helped produce, act, and support this very personal story as well. I’m so grateful. We’re almost done with post-production and have started submitting to festivals. Follow @theredshoefilm on Instagram if you want to join us on the journey!
