The Barrow Group offers an Acting Workshop at the Queensboro Correctional Facility

This past Tuesday, May 30, TBG teacher Lorrel Manning, with assistance from Nick Russel and Sarah Ahearn, taught a film/tv workshop at the Queensboro Correctional Facility.  Many of the students had never acted before, and found the workshop to be revelatory.  The students wrote their own monologues and then performed them on-camera; under Lorrel’s guidance, they were able to let go of “acting” and share their monologues from themselves.  All present were moved by the simplicity, authenticity and vulnerability the students discovered.  The Barrow Group hopes to offer more of these workshops, and is at present looking for funding sources.

From the Queensboro Correctional Facility:

“On behalf of the Executive Team and the population I would like to extend a hearty thank you to you and your staff for freely giving of your time, kindness and professionalism. I must add that you & your staff are the talk of the Facility.” –Tanya M-Voyd, Deputy Supt of Programs, Queensboro Correctional Facility

Way to go Lorrel, Nick and Sarah!
