Lee Brock: One Snowy Night

Doug GoldringCommunity

January 19th, nine o’clock in the morning. The weather report predicts six to eight inches of snow. I receive a text from F.A.B.’s Producing Director. (F.A.B. is a branch of The Barrow Group dedicated to writing For, About, and By Women.)

“Should we cancel our F.A.B. sharing tonight?”

I reply, “Let’s not cancel. Let’s see what the weather wants to do.”

It snows all day. We decide to meet anyway.

I walk into the studio and see so many warm, familiar faces – a testament to the value of continuing to nurture and support each other. Women traveled far to be in the room and share their work. I love these women – deeply love them. F.A.B. has been nurturing female artists since 2009. Tears come to my eyes. So much precious history. The work reflects that love and support.

After the evening, a number of performers, writers, and attendees approach me…

“I really needed this. It nurtured my soul.”

“This night saved me.”

“I can’t tell you how grateful I am for being here.”

Me too.

Love,
Lee
