Our 1-Week Kids Explorations in Acting Camp explores:
- ensemble building
- improvisation
- foundational elements of storytelling
- introduction to The Barrow Group tools
- Creating storytelling elements including: props, costumes, and sets!
- culminates in a showing for friends and family to attend
Through games and exercises, students are introduced to collaborative play and ensemble building skills. Students then build upon these skills as they explore acting and performance techniques by helping to create and share short plays using either a piece of children’s literature or by creating their own characters.
This camp teaches our specific approach to storytelling, and introduces students to the same tools that our adult professional actors work with. We believe that to act is to play and that students learn the most in an atmosphere of relaxed positive reinforcement.
What makes The Barrow Group School different from many other studios in NYC is that all of our teachers have gone through an intensive teacher training program with TBG co-artistic directors Seth Barrish and Lee Brock. So when your child takes a class with us, the teacher has trained for years at The Barrow Group in our specific approach.

Our 1-week Kids Explorations in Musical Theatre Camp introduces the foundational elements of storytelling and improvisation. Through games and exercises, students are introduced collaborative play and ensemble building skills. Students explore musical theatre by working as an ensemble on a selected musical. Each camp will focus on a different musical, such as The Wizard of Oz, Annie, The Lion King, etc. Acting and performance skills are explored as students work on scenes from the same musical. Students learn how to work with an accompanist via vocal warms up and technique.
The camp culminates in an open class to share their plays for friends and family.
