“As a Film and TV casting director, what I find particularly great about The Barrow Group School is their ability to teach people how to act naturally and just be. I highly recommend them.” – Marcia DeBonis, Casting Director, ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT
This 10-week course is the class most actors take when they find The Barrow Group. This is not a beginning acting class, rather the course is designed to build on the actor’s existing set of skills and take training to the next level. Over the course of 10 weeks, the actor is introduced to the simple, effective tools compiled in Seth Barrish’s book “An Actor’s Companion – 99 Bits of Craft.” (http://barrowgroup NULL.org/an-actors-companion)
The first class is devoted to exercises that introduce The Barrow Group Acting Approach. The second class introduces The Barrow Group approach to Script Analysis. After that, students pair up with each other and work on scenes of their choice. Typically, students rehearse a scene, put it up in class, receive an adjustment, re-rehearse the scene with the adjustment in mind outside of class, and present the scene a second a time.
The next class in the scene study progression is Scene Study Intensive II: Self-Adjustment, in which the actor practices self-adjustment (rather than having to rely on a teacher or director).
