Teacher Spotlight: Alyson Schacherer

Doug GoldringCommunity, Training

We’d love to introduce you to one of our incredible TBG teaching artists, Alyson Schacherer! Check out our interview with her below…

What do you enjoy most about teaching?

AS:  The students! I meet such rad people. That we get to spend time together each week dedicated to creativity, process, and craft feels very special. Teaching feeds my acting and directing work; I’m a better actor and director because of continuing to discover with and be inspired by the classes I teach.

What is a TBG tool you love to use in your own acting journey?

AS:  “Yes and”-ing whatever is real for me.  Say I’m getting tired or hungry or distracted or annoyed or giddy or nervous or would rather be anyplace else — if I can allow my reality, it then becomes a part of the story (and is usually a gift) rather than me expending energy trying to other or abdicate it.

What is a project that you’ve been a part of that you are proud of?

AS:  I was just in a short film written by Larry Lau, directed by Jeremy Folmer, and produced by Dylan Blue. Soon I’ll direct a short starring Shane Allen and Alex Correia. I’ve been much more intentional in recent years about the projects I work on, who with, and the stories I participate in telling rather then saying yes to everything because of the idea that I may never work again! And that practice feels very important and right.  I’ve also been coaching actors who are working on such exciting projects, and it’s really fulfilling to me to be a part of that.
