Theme: Black Joy – A Celebration of Vibrant Aliveness

For Works in Progress, writers are pre-selected to share up to 10 pages of their script-in-progress in front of an audience. Actors will be cast on the spot at 6pm EST (no advanced casting allowed) and the readings will begin at 7pm EST.

Writers: To participate, email your submission (up to 10 pages) of your script in progress to firstfridays@barrowgroup.org.For this edition, we’re accepting submissions of work in progress from African American, Afro Caribbean, Black European, Afro Latinx writers that center African American, Afro-Caribbean, Black-European,African and Afro-Latinx characters.
The theme of Black Joy:
– Celebrating Black on Black love stories.
– Tales of vibrant joyous Black life and Afro-futurism (Black people happy alive and free in the future)
-Stories that appreciate the joy grounded resilience of Black Communities.
-A celebration remix of Black History month and Valentine’s Day
Deadline to submit is Friday, January 29 at 5pm EST. Writers will be notified if selected by Tuesday, February 2.

Actors: To participate, reserve your free ticket and login to the event at 6pm EST on February 5. For the event, we ask that actors join the Zoom session in a quiet place.

Audience: If you’d like to watch the readings, reserve your free ticket and login to the event at 7pm EST.
