Professional Scene Study Intensive I: The Tools

Prerequisite: Audition Required

This class (10-weeks fall/winter/spring and 8-weeks summer) is designed for professional actors to build on the actor’s existing set of skills. The actor is introduced to the simple, effective tools compiled in Seth Barrish’s book “An Actor’s Companion – 99 Bits of Craft.”

The first class is devoted to exercises that introduce The Barrow Group Acting Approach.  The second class introduces The Barrow Group approach to Script Analysis.  For the remaining classes, students select scene partners and scenes of their choice to work on in class. Typically, students rehearse a scene, put it up in class, receive an adjustment, re-rehearse the scene with the adjustment in mind outside of class, and present the scene a second a time.

The next class in the professional scene study progression is Professional Scene Study Intensive II: Self-Adjustment, in which the actor practices self-adjustment (rather than having to rely on a teacher or director).
