The One Year Directing Program is taught by co-artistic directors Seth Barrish and Lee Brock, and is a comprehensive approach to directing, divided into three sessions:
The year begins with an introduction to the Barrow Group approach, in depth script analysis, audition technique, and scene work with actors to focus on communication between actor and director to evoke natural, spontaneous performances.
In this session, the teachers will select a full play for all directors to work on – including script analysis, design approach, and scene work.
Directors will bring in material of their choosing to work on in class with actors to apply the Barrow Group tools. During this session, directors will also bring in works for consideration for final reading.
*The program culminates with each director receiving a night in our studio theatre to present a reading as part of Fridays@TBG. These readings will occur in May, June, and July.
*Throughout the year, professional designers (scenic, costume, lighting, sound) and stage managers, producers will discuss their areas of expertise and discuss communication between director and designer.
