We’d love to introduce you to one of our incredible TBG teaching artists, Doug Goldring! Read our interview with him below…

What do you enjoy most about teaching?
DG: You know, I never really expected teaching to be something I would do, but five years in, I just keep enjoying it more and more. It’s nice to feel like I can contribute to someone’s journey, especially when the lessons I’m passing on are lived experiences of mine from along the way.
I’m very grateful to have made the choices I’ve made in life that allow me to have a dynamic, creative experience every day, and for those who haven’t made those same choices necessarily, it’s especially gratifying to be able to facilitate the few hours in a student’s week when they can be silly, and vulnerable, and expressive, and creative too.
I also just love talking acting, and wow do I do that a lot as a teacher.
What is a TBG tool you love to use in your own acting journey?
DG: I’m always reminding myself to find little activities to do, or to take in the environment around me, or to notice something new about my partner. Anything that can get my attention off myself and onto something else really helps me.
What is a project that you’ve been a part of that you are proud of?
DG: I was really lucky to get to be in the last season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. I feel like I got in there just in time, and that set was very kind and welcoming, even though I was only there for one day.
I’m also really really proud to have done Gruesome Playground Injuries by Rajiv Joseph a few years ago. I love that play (everyone does,) and that character, and that whole experience was the closest to a sense of “flow” that I’ve experienced in a professional setting. I felt loose, and confident, and spontaneous in every rehearsal and every performance. (Those who know me know it’s hard for me to say nice things about my own acting, but I think I was good in that show! And if you saw it, and I wasn’t, don’t tell me.)
