“TBG was really the institution that taught me how to act. I worked with the best teachers, who taught me why less is really more.”

Our Acting 1: Explorations in Acting for Teens (14-17 years old) classes encourage spontaneity, simplicity and fun. We believe that to act is to PLAY, and that students learn the most in an atmosphere of relaxed positive reinforcement. This class teaches our specific approach to storytelling, and introduces students to the same tools that our adult professional actors work with.
We begin with ensemble building games, then introduce the Barrow Group tools via monologues and scene study. The class culminates in an open class for friends and family to come watch their work.
What makes The Barrow Group School different from many other studios in NYC is that all of our teachers have gone through an intensive teacher training program with TBG co-Artistic Directors Seth Barrish and Lee Brock. So when your child takes a class with us, the teacher has trained for years at The Barrow Group in our specific approach.
These classes can be taken multiple times before advancing on to Acting 2: Theatre Production and Performance.
Acting 2: Theatre Production and Performance for Teens (ages 14-17)
After School: 14 Weeks, $495
*Students must have completed Explorations in Acting Class before registering for this class.
In this class students will learn all of the artistic and technical positions in professional theater by writing, acting, directing, and designing their own work. Students begin with writing exercises then step into the roles of actor, director, producer, stage manager, and design team for each others work. Throughout the course students will also learn the basic technical aspects of running the light and sound booth.
The class culminates in an open showing of their plays for friends, family and TBG community members.
