Teacher Spotlight: Quinn Vogt-Welch

Doug GoldringCommunity, Training

We’d love to help you get to know our incredible TBG teaching artists a little bit better, so we got Quinn Vogt-Welch to answer a few questions! Check out our interview with her below…

What is your favorite class to teach at TBG and why?

QVW:  The Directing I Workshop – it’s the most challenging and rewarding to see how directors and actors respond to this simple, efficient, and compelling approach to telling a story. I always feel a little nervous to teach this, and I think that’s a good thing.

What is something you recently learned or were reminded of in the world of acting, writing, or directing?

QVW: I recently directed the play To Kill A Mockingbird, and Atticus has a line in the book that reminded me of acting: “Delete the adjectives and you’ll have the facts.” This is true for both trial law and theatre storytelling. Sticking to the facts as a storyteller allows the audience to draw their own conclusions.

What is a recent, current, or upcoming project that you’d like folks to know about?

QVW: Keep an eye out for something fun from Core Artist Ensemble this fall! Farrah Crane and I not only share space in the administrative office at The Barrow Group, but we also share the title of co-artistic directors of a theatre company that sprouted out of Lee Brock’s Master Class that’s been around since 2012. We’re excited to get it up and running again, slowly but surely.
