We’d love to help you get to know our incredible TBG teaching artists a little bit better, so we got Arielle Beth Klein to answer a few questions! Check out our interview with her below…

What is your favorite class to teach at TBG and why?
ABK: Lately, I’ve loved teaching the Solo Show II class! Bearing witness to storytellers developing material week-to-week that is often personal and deeply moving is inspiring. I’m reminded not only of the bravery and necessity of telling our stories but also of the importance of gathering as a community of artists to provide useful, specific feedback as we develop our work.
Also, when groups of students that took Solo Show I come back to take Solo Show II together and then continue to support each other outside of classes warms my heart. This work can’t happen in a vacuum, and having a small hand in people’s solo show journey is an honor.
What is something you recently learned or were reminded of in the world of acting, writing, or directing?
ABK: Everything we do onstage as actors, writers, or directors is all in service of the story for the audience. Whenever I don’t get a callback for an audition, can’t decide what to edit out of a script, or start to feel imposter syndrome sneak in as an early career solo show director, I take my attention off of myself and my feelings and simply ask “What serves the story?” I find it beautifully freeing and useful to remember that it’s not about me personally.
What is a recent, current, or upcoming project that you’d like folks to know about?
ABK: My short film The Red Shoe, which was developed at TBG, is still on the festival circuit! It was featured at the TBG Short Film Sharing, and I’m really looking forward to making it publicly available hopefully by the Fall. (Check out @theredshoefilm on IG if you wanna follow our journey!) Other than that my focus is on producing the next developing reading of my new(ish) play OBIT. (Find me on IG @ariellebethklein to follow that journey.)
