PANTS AND SKIRTS is a meditation on self-identity disguised as theatrical tomfoolery. Borrowing from turn-of-the-century Music Hall Burlesque, the production is a playful mashup — a clown piece without a nose, a mime who speaks, a puppet play where the puppets are in charge, a Ted Talk gone hopelessly awry. Performed as a solo piece with two puppeteers manipulating the wardrobe, the play has a DIY esthetic with a technologically sophisticated undercarriage. It runs just under an hour, and performs on a simple set that can adapt to any performance environment. After the performance, the audience can choose to participate in an interactive exhibition, which extends the conversation beyond the stage.
