As a part of our ongoing support of new works, The Barrow Group presents a reading series of works in progress. This series has spawned a number of off-Broadway and Broadway plays including: The Tricky Part and All the Rage by Martin Moran, Sleepwalk with Me and My Girlfriend’s Boyfriend by Mike Birbiglia, A Steady Rain by Keith Huff and Honey Brown Eyes by Stefanie Zadravec. It also serves as a forum to receive feedback from audience members on plays (published and unpublished) being considered for production.
Each year The Barrow Group produces three MainStage readings. These plays have risen through our ranks, and are under consideration for MainStage production.
The Barrow Group produces monthly readings in our Studio theatre of works in the pipeline for development at The Barrow Group.
The Barrow Group primarily uses actors who have completed Scene Study 2 and directors who have completed Directing Workshop 2 in our MainStage and Studio readings. Interested in getting involved? Please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Barrow Group no longer takes submissions. TBG is booked up through the next season and beyond. Although we have limited time and space for new play development we’ll be looking for plays through other portals, such as the National New Play Exchange and from our own community of theatre artists.
There are still lots of upcoming opportunities for actors, directors, playwrights and filmmakers:
In addition to the MainStage Season, we continue to have free Friday night events, a 48-hour film fest, a 24-hour playfest, as well as our ongoing acting classes. To get to know us better, sign up on the website for Barrow Group emails.
Please note that The Barrow Group is not the same as Barrow Street Theatre (we love their work, too, but they are a different organization). Also know that The Barrow Group is not at the current time interested in musicals or children’s theatre.
Thanks again for your interest in The Barrow Group. We hope our paths cross in the future and wish you all the best with your work.
