Beginners Acting Class I: The Basics

This 10-week class is designed for the beginning / amateur adult actor, and will teach you the fundamentals of the craft. The class highlights quick and powerful ways to make your performance more natural and spontaneous. No experience is necessary.  A great start for the beginning actor!

TEACHER BIO

Instructor: Martin Van Treuren

MARTIN VAN TREUREN’S career as a professional actor has spanned more than 30 years. For over 18 years he has been part of The Barrow Group Community and has studied there as an actor and teacher with Seth Barrish.  He also has appeared in their productions of UNCLE VANYA, SONNETS FOR AN OLD CENTURY, MEDAL OF RAG and THE BEAUTIFUL DARK.

He was in the original Broadway Casts of JEKYLL & HYDE,  DR.SEUSS’ HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS, A CHRISTMAS CAROL, ME AND MY GIRL, and SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN.   His Off –Broadway credits include THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE (at NYC’s Seaport), BLESSING IN DISGUISE, THE MISER, ANYONE CAN WHISTLE (Carnegie Hall), and ALLEGRO (City Center Encores). He made his New York City Opera debut as Voltaire/Dr. Pangloss in CANDIDE.  Martin has many National Tours to his credit, most notably GRAND HOTEL directed by Tommy Tune, and CAMELOT starring Richard Harris. He has played such Regional Theatres as the Old Globe in San Diego, The Alley Theatre in Houston, Pennsylvania Centre Stage, North Shore Music Theatre, Westchester Broadway Theatre and Capital Rep in Albany.  In London he was featured in PARADISE FOUND directed by Hal Prince and Susan Stroman at the Menier Chocolate Factory.

His TV appearances include  JEKYLL & HYDE the Musical, LAW & ORDER SVU, FOREVER, and THE GOOD WIFE.

Instructor: Edward Stanley

EDWARD STANLEY has been a member of the Barrow Group community since 2012. He's worked as an actor and spokesperson in theatre, television, commercials, industrials, voiceover, and print for over twenty five years. During his ten years in Los Angeles he worked primarily in television, with roles on Modern Family, Hot in Cleveland, The Comeback, and Desperate Housewives, among others. Edward has performed extensively on stage in his hometown of Boston, working with SpeakEasy Stage, Provincetown Rep, Boston Lyric Opera, and the Charles Playhouse, and spent two seasons in nearly twenty productions with the Alabama Shakespeare Festival. Recent credits include Mark Antony with the Virginia Shakespeare Festival, Oberon and Theseus with the Shakespeare Forum, and Duncan in Punchdrunk's Sleep No More.  Edward holds a BFA from Adelphi University, an MFA from the University of Alabama, and has studied with the National Theatre Studio in London.

If you need to cancel a class for any reason, you must notify us by email at least one week before the class begins, and we will apply a credit to your account for a future class.
As our faculty are all working professional actors, directors and playwrights, we reserve the right to change teachers at any time.
Commitment is for the duration of the session. THERE ARE NO CREDITS OR REFUNDS FOR MISSED CLASSES. If you discontinue any class before the ending date of the session, you forfeit your fee.
