Physical Awareness w/ Lydia Yohay

This class is a three part once a month workshop devoted to learning about the body, the use of the body and how to work using the hands on to correct patterns of habitual usage and relieve pain. The goal is for participants to be able to work with themselves and each other after taking the workshop.

PART ONE - Head, Neck and Shoulders

We will quickly review simple skeletal anatomy. I will on individuals to show participants how one observes patterns of the body and “corrects” them. Participants will then break up into pairs and work with each other under my supervision.

PART TWO - Ribcage, Arms (lower and upper) and Hands

We will quickly review simple skeletal anatomy. I will work with individuals on their structure and usage. Participants will break up into dyads and work with each other while being supervised.
This session will also deal with movement patterns and body organization.

PART THREE - Pelvis, Legs and Feet

We will quickly review simple skeletal/muscular anatomy.
I will work with individuals on their structure and usage.
Participants will break up into dyads and work with each other under my supervision.

Lydia Yohay has been a practicing Alexander Technique teacher for forty years and Feldkraus practitioner for thirty. She is also a clinical licensed social worker with years of experience in different therapeutic modalities.

Lydia has extensive experience working with performers in all the performing arts. She has worked with Meredith Monk ensemble, Tricia Brown’s dance company, and actors like Joe Chaken. She has been in private practice for forty years. She has also trained practitioners in Europe and the United States.
